Seeing the light

chivas_regal_20171003_22-9965Recently I was invited to an event hosted by Chivas Regal UK at The Blend on the Bethnal Green Road in London. I attended the event as a guest but took my Fuji X100T camera along and took some photos of the event, without using a flash, using the available light.

Working with the only available light (mainly lit from the bar) and without the need of having to document the event. I was able to experiment with the light and dark capturing the ambience.

The cultural diversity of London allows me to work on my photography and capture aa moment such as the above Peruvian dancer Angela Evans – Olano (Instagram: @angloperuvianabroad) at the charity event hosted by Ceviche Old Street, The Anglo Peruvian Society and Peruvian Embassy raising money for the devastating floods and mudslides in Peru

Studio Style

With this months Autumn Winter 2017 London Fashion Week I was inspired to work on the disciplines needed for this style of photography. I also took the opportunity to photograph the models and fashion bloggers attending London Fashion Week.

Being prepared

benaffleck20160111_1-5065Working in Central London always means there is always something different going on and its not always possible to carry a bulky DSLR with lens every day. I always have my iPhone on me which is great for taking a photo to document the moment or for a night out with friends. However I always usually carry my Fuji X100T for being able take a photo which will allow me to capture the moment in a way I see fit.

On Wednesday 11th January I was walking along the south bank after work and Ben Affleck happened to be meeting fans for the Premier of his new movie at the BFI South Bank. I had the X100T on me so took a few photos, knowing I wouldn’t really be in a position to get a good portrait I decided to capture the atmosphere of an outdoor film premier in London’s mid winter and in the street style I have been working on over the past year and a half.

Take a look at my album  London at night: Low light street photos for more from this series.

The Music Scene

tomedwardsphotography_openmicbedroombar1209_15pgI went to an open Mic night  at the Bedroom Bar in London’s Shoreditch to take my photos of my friend’s Pop, Hip Hop, net-soul group, Delphi. This gave me the opportunity to try out Live performance photography taking my Street Photography into a bar and using the low light to create more atmospheric photos all with my street camera, my Fuji X100T.

I’m pretty happy with the results. Check out more photos in my Events page

Atmospheric conditioning

At the end of August in London’s Soho I worked with my musician friend Akara (Twitter @akaraett)  to experiment with the use of natural light on a Summer’s evening to add to to the atmosphere in a series of street portraits. This meant being creative with the tools we had and trying to control the light rather than having complete control. Street and portrait photography is an aspect of photography I really enjoy so this will be something of a project of mine

Capturing the moment

laughter

Over the past few months I have been taking more street photos than ever with the purchase of my Fuji X100T fixed lens camera. The fixed lens camera bring me closer to the action capturing the moments which show London’s versatile city life from street scenes, to friends events.

This week i attended my  artist friend Kathlyn Pagador www.kpagador.com meet the artist event at Store Street Espresso in central London. The photos were taken using the Fuji X100T which is also a  talking point due to its retro style. These are posted them in my London Living section  of the site. See what you think.

Lights, Camera, Action! : Event Photography

causa1

So far since Living in London I have been invited to a few events to take photographs based in conference centres, sports clubs and even an embassy. I’ve realised that this involves a lot of preparation to make sure that the moment is captured and not forgotten. As with any kind of work for a client understanding what is required beforehand (what kind of photos will be used and what story will be told through the photos)  is important then selecting the right tools and preparing for eventualities (failing memory cards, batteries and other technical issues as well as lighting including the weather). There is always something to learn and incorporates different genres of photography including life style to capture the moment as well as portraits. Living in a city like London there are always opportunities to take event photographs to many styles from corporate meetings, social parties and charity events.

At the beginning of May I attended the ‘Almuerzo Criollo’ charity event hosted by the Anglo Peruvian Society at the Thames Rowing Club in Putney, London  for Amantani UK and took my Fuji X100T a long to take photos.

Thank you to the Anglo Peruvian Society for letting me capture the event. The photos can be found on my events page
